Refined Sanctuary | The Apartment

Pine Street Retreat is a studio residence in Nob Hill, set within a quiet historic building just steps from the Ritz-Carlton. Three windows look out through mature trees. Soft light arrives early and lingers throughout the day.
The interiors are shaped in collaboration with Northern California designer Erica Tanov. Her grounded sensibility is present throughout the space, felt in the considered materials, relaxed palette, and the way the room settles.
The kitchen is small and thoughtfully outfitted. Staub cookware, good knives, a convection oven. Everything needed to cook a real meal without thinking too hard about it. A private in-unit washer and dryer makes extended stays feel easy, rare in a building of this age. The sleeping area is designed for tranquil rest. A Tempur-Pedic mattress, Erica Tanov and Parachute linens, organic cotton sheets. The bath is stocked with Aesop and Common Good.
The room is anchored by work from Bay Area artists: a multimedia landscape by Louis Siegriest, a brass sculpture by Isabelle Tanov, an original photograph by Don Hong-Oai. An antique rice basket once belonging to Rita Moreno sits prominently in the space. Shelves hold signed volumes by Erica Tanov, David Sedaris, and Thomas Keller.
Outside, the cable car softly passes at a familiar interval. The neighborhood is best on foot.
